Whether you’re a woman looking for a female friend, or a lesbian searching for her next date, finding the kind of person you’re hoping to meet can be tough. Unless, of course, you take your search online. You still won’t be guaranteed success, but your chances will improve.

The main trick is to make sure you’re searching in the right places. You can’t just hop onto Reddit, start posting in all kinds of female-related spaces, and hope you hit it off with someone. Instead, you should make your search more specific. Take advantage of lesbian chat rooms on video chat sites or join private groups on social media platforms. If you can refine your strategy a bit, you’ll be meeting other women in no time. Speaking of which, check out the sites and apps below – you’re sure to find something that’s a good fit for you.

Taimi

As the self-proclaimed largest LGBTQ dating platform in the world, lesbians looking for someone special will feel right at home. This app hosts over 8 million singles from the LGBTQ community, and while the focus is on online dating, there’s more to it than that; it also functions as a social network and free chat app. You can put posts and stories on your profile, make audio and video calls, chat with other users, and even find location-based matches. Taimi also takes your privacy seriously: they avoid displaying anything if the app is viewed without a password, pin, face recognition, or fingerprint.

Bumble

This dating platform doesn’t cater exclusively to women – but it does put the power in their hands. Women get to make the first move on Bumble, and they have more control over interactions in general. If you’re a woman looking for other women, you can use the same-sex “meet friends” option, which will help you find anything from a friend to a long-term relationship. The app encourages users to register through Facebook, but registration with a mobile number is also possible.

Zoe

If you wanted a dating app exclusively for queer women, here it is. Zoe is a bit of a newcomer on the dating app scene, but it’s already making waves with a 9.9 rating on the Apple App Store. Most users are on the app to find a long-term lesbian relationship, so if you’re just looking for a hookup you might not have much luck. The messaging feature is free to use, but various other features (like video chats) are only available for those with a paid membership. A personality quiz taken during registration will help you find more accurate matches, and the app is highly customizable as well.

Here's another dating/social networking app dedicated to queer women. The free version of the app offers all the core features, but to access all the coolest features, you’d need a paid membership. You’ll not only be able to use a wider variety of communication features, but you’d also stay in the loop with LGBTQ-related news and events, and show other users that you’re committed to finding the perfect match. A rigorous registration process is supposed to weed out fake accounts, which seems to have been effective.

PinkCupid

This dating platform is designed for lesbian and bisexual women, and most of the users are between 24 and 34 years old. It’s easy to register, and there are both free and paid memberships available. However, it can be hard to get anywhere using the free version. For instance, you can view incoming messages from potential matches, but you’d need a paid membership to respond or connect with the other person. If you’re willing to pay for a dating site, though, PinkCupid has plenty of features that make it worth the price. A favorite among users is the “Online Now” notification, which tells you when potential matches are using the platform in real-time.

Even though “lesbian” is literally in the name (and it does focus on women looking for women), this dating site is also available for anyone who’s part of the LGBTQ community. There’s no app available, but the website works well on smaller screens. You can sign up in just a few minutes, and then start browsing for matches among users worldwide. The information you’ll be asked to provide while registering includes your sexual orientation, age, race, location, body type, and marital status. Whether you’re looking for a quick fling or a serious relationship, this is a great platform to help you find it.
