Buying lingerie can certainly be an intimidating experience, especially if it is your first time. There are many questions to consider when taking the leap, but such a unique experience is both unique and unforgettable.

Originating in the early 20th century, the word lingerie comes from the French word linge, meaning ‘linen’, making a direct reference to the material that underwear typically came from. Since then, lingerie quickly became popular, particularly during the age of the suffragette movement, turning the tide in sexual politics and evoking a strong sense of femininity, individuality, and confidence. Although it was once a sign of social status––considering very few people could afford it––owning lingerie is much more inclusive (as it should be!).

Now, you may find yourself wondering…

Where is the best place to buy sets?

Now more than ever it’s important to shop local and shop small. Luckily, boutiques like Angie’s Showroom are the perfect place to do so. Angie’s is a luxury, handmade lingerie e-commerce store founded in 2018. This boutique strongly believes that lingerie is one of the most basic and important parts of someone’s wardrobe, and it certainly does not limit itself to “special occasion” sets. No, this boutique specializes in a wide variety of areas, including (but certainly not limited to) bridal lingerie sets, nightwear, swimwear, bodysuits, everyday pieces, and more, ensuring that there is certainly something for everyone.

With each collection that is released, Angie’s team ensures that their lingerie not only thrills their clients, but also makes them feel effortlessly beautiful, confident, and comfortable. Each set is designed in Europe and handcrafted with the finest silk, satin, and French or Italian lace. As the showroom’s founder, Angie always says, “This boutique’s mission is to showcase something different to make women feel sexy no matter the size.” For this reason, each design is completely customizable by way of size, color, and more. By taking the focus away from mass-production and instead focusing on each unique piece, ensures that each collection is personal and distinct. And the best part is that Angie’s Showroom is always releasing new designs! Angie’s Showroom not only allows you to feel good about supporting a small business but also gives you peace of mind knowing you are purchasing high-quality lingerie that fits and feels great on your skin. Angie truly leaves no detail behind!

Are some materials better than others?

Absolutely. As you research different boutiques on your journey to purchasing your first lingerie set, you may notice that each brand varies in price and quality of materials. Typically, you will either find sets made cheaply with low-quality materials for a low price, or costly sets made with higher quality materials. In the early years of lingerie, materials such as lace, chiffon, and crepe de chine were very popular due to how they mirrored the feel of idealized flesh. Now, more than a century later, Angie’s Showroom believes in providing reasonably priced, one-of-a-kind, handmade, luxury collections crafted with only the highest quality materials, setting this showroom apart from other lingerie and competing brands.

Each collection is crafted with beautiful silk, exquisite satin, and detailed lace, and each piece is entirely customizable. No matter what you are looking for, you’ll find it at Angie’s. Additionally, less than 1% of existing lingerie brands worldwide are handmade, which makes Angie’s Showroom very unique, indeed!

How does one take care of lingerie?

Typically, you want to follow the Golden Rule: handmade, hand-washed. Angie’s Showroom recommends hand-washing sets with like colors using lukewarm, soapy water and a mild detergent. Without this TLC, the custom lingerie sets run the risk of being ruined. Similar to the careful wash process, Angie recommends a gentle touch for the dry, advising clients to lay the premium lingerie flat to dry on a rack. Using dryers should generally be avoided, as this can cause the high-quality materials to fray or fade. Finally, Angie recommends careful storage of all sets. Be sure not to store your handmade pieces inside out or folded, particularly the bras, as this may cause strain on the set and decrease its precious lifespan!
