Selena Gomez has decided to take another break from social media, as she shared in an Instagram Story on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old actress, known for her role in "Only Murders in the Building," expressed that she is focusing on what truly matters and will be stepping away from social media for a while. In the Instagram Story, she shared a video featuring her record producer boyfriend, Benny Blanco, spending quality time with two children.
This decision comes amidst recent speculation and rumors surrounding Gomez after her appearance at the 2024 Golden Globes. Attendees observed an animated conversation between Gomez, her best friend Taylor Swift, and Keleigh Sperry at their table. Some speculators, including lip-reading expert Jeremy Freeman, believed Gomez was gossiping about an encounter with Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner.
According to the speculation, Gomez allegedly asked Chalamet for a photo, but Jenner declined. Gomez, however, denied this narrative in a comment on E! News’ Instagram post about the incident, stating that she was actually sharing a personal story about two friends who hooked up.

This isn't the first time Gomez has taken a break from social media. In October, she briefly left due to the overwhelming negativity and violence in the world. She expressed her distress over the horror, hate, violence, and terror happening globally and her inability to stand by while innocent people are hurt. In her previous hiatus in February 2023, she stepped back shortly after becoming the most followed person on Instagram, citing feeling "too old for this."
The recent break also follows Gomez's denial of any feud with Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet. The actor clarified that there are no issues between them, indicating that everything is good. Gomez and Chalamet previously worked together in the 2019 rom-com "A Rainy Day in New York."
Throughout her career, Gomez has had public moments involving the Kardashian/Jenner family. Notably, there were rumors of a fling between Kourtney Kardashian and Justin Bieber during a break between Gomez and the musician in 2015. Additionally, Kendall Jenner's best friend, Hailey Baldwin, married Justin Bieber in 2018. Although there have been occasional social media interactions, Gomez and Baldwin dismissed feud speculation last year.

Gomez's break also echoes a previous instance in February 2023 when she stepped away from social media. During that time, her little sister, Gracie, took to the app with Kim Kardashian’s daughter, North, to make homemade pasta in an adorable video. The dynamic with Taylor Swift adds another layer, as Swift has had her own public drama, particularly with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. Swift recently revealed in a Time magazine interview that she went to a "foreign country" for a year after being emotionally affected by the fallout from Kanye West's song "Famous."
This recent decision by Gomez reflects the challenges and pressures that celebrities face in navigating the public eye and managing their personal lives in a world driven by social media speculation.
