Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Kidman shared that plans are in motion. "We are always cooking things up. We’ve got a timeline for it now," she revealed. However, the loss of director Jean-Marc Vallée, who passed away in 2021 and played a crucial role in the show, was a significant blow. Kidman acknowledged the impact of Vallée's absence, saying, "We are obviously all devastated at the loss of Jean-Marc Vallée. That made us go, ‘Can we move forward?’ But Reese [Witherspoon] and I, and all of the other women, have decided, yes we can."

Kidman, an executive producer of the show alongside Witherspoon, emphasized their commitment to bringing back the series. She disclosed that she and Witherspoon have been in constant communication about the revival. "Reese and I were texting every day, ‘Are we going? Are we doing it? Are we doing it?’ We can’t say anything more. We’ve got to start keeping our mouths shut … We’ve got to button it," Kidman remarked to Variety.

Reese Witherspoon had also stoked the hopes of fans during her appearance on the Golden Globes red carpet. “We are working on it,” she told Variety regarding a potential third season.

"Big Little Lies" has been a critically acclaimed HBO drama that earned eight Emmys across its two seasons.

The series revolves around a group of women in California and involves a murder mystery. The star-studded cast includes Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz, Laura Dern, Adam Scott, Alexander Skarsgård, Kathryn Newton, and Meryl Streep.

While details about the potential third season are kept under wraps, fans are eager to see how the narrative will unfold. Kidman, currently engaged in promoting another show titled "Expats," reminisced about how the idea for "Big Little Lies" came to fruition.

"I read the book; my sister gave it to me to read, and I knew it would make an amazing film. But it was so dense I thought a mini-series would work better. And it was the right cast," Kidman explained. The series has been praised not only for its gripping storyline but also for its stellar ensemble cast and exploration of complex themes. As fans await further updates, the prospect of a new chapter in "Big Little Lies" continues to generate excitement.
