Luxury Women's Wallets to Up Your Game

by RankCastle Publishers, Sponsored Posts

If you’re a fan of the Noughties cult classic Clueless, you would have noticed Cher’s smiling purse hanging from her closet door. Back then, a brightly-colored Hello Kitty wallet was a fashionista’s most coveted accessory. Now that we find ourselves in the age of quiet luxury, women’s purses and wallets are more than just fashion accessories. They’re investment pieces that speak volumes about the finer things in life.

You’ve got a YSL handbag draped over your arm, so why stop there? Matchy-matchy is all the rage this season. Top it off with a YSL wallet. As the saying goes, “What is good for the goose is good for the gander.” In this article, we’ll do a style check on luxury women’s wallets to suit all budgets.

GO FOR ITALIAN LEATHER

Luxury leather products, including leather duffel bags and leather belts, are often made from Italian leather. Because it is high-quality full-grain leather, Italian leather is preferred when crafting leather wallets and cardholders. Italian leather is renowned for its exceptional quality, but the Von Baer range takes it to another level by using full-grain vegetable-tanned Italian leather that develops a beautiful patina over time.

If properly cared for, Italian leather can last for decades. Using a centuries-old vegetable tanning technique, the leather can withstand everyday wear and tear. However, the real appeal of Italian leather lies in its age—the older it gets, the more elegant it appears. The timeless allure of the fabric makes it a favorite in the fashion world. Prada is one fashion house that continues to use Italian leather and incorporate it into its innovative and stylish designs.

Italian tanning artisans have taken decades to perfect their craft. Every piece they produce, from leather laptop bags to leather shoulder bags, is exceptional and sometimes regarded as a stunning work of art.

Exhibiting warm tones that intensify over time, you can’t go wrong with an Italian leather wallet. The versatile accessory can be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion.

SHINE ON WITH PATENT LEATHER

Many people think patent leather isn’t real due to its shiny exterior. It’s the coating on fine-grain leather that gives the high-gloss finish to many leather fashion accessories.

Patent leather purses have been dominating the catwalk this past spring, and it’s not hard to see why. Vintage styles from the 90s and early 2000s are among the top-searched styles, Stephanie Horton, senior director of commerce marketing at Google, tells Elle. Subscribing to a certain aesthetic, Elle’s Madison Rexroat mentions that patent leather can be worn year-round because it’s a lifestyle, not just a look.

OPT-IN FOR SUSTAINABLE LEATHER

Ethical fashion encompasses several factors, from the design to the distribution of a garment or product. Fundamentally, it comes down to how we consume the product. According to The Good Trade, ethical fashion is more about values than rules. If a brand’s core values don’t align with a consumer’s beliefs, they risk losing a loyal customer base. Many brands are slowly moving away from using leather and opting for sustainable alternatives.

Sustainable leather is a byproduct of local farming and agriculture. The sustainable label is only applied if the animals are not raised expressly for their leather. Farmers should treat their animals with care and respect. Not as pricey as genuine or Italian leather, sustainable leather is just as stylish. Thanks to scientific innovations, producing this leather reduces waste and decreases emissions, says Deborah Taylor, managing director of the Sustainable Leather Foundation.

OTHER LEATHER ALTERNATIVES

The fashion industry is always on the lookout for vegan alternatives to leather. Fungi-based leather, also known as mushroom leather, was previously proposed as an environmentally friendly, low-cost option. However, the technique was dismissed due to production challenges, according to Technology Networks.

New research published by Cambridge University Press suggests that mushroom eco-leather could soon become a reality. The study proposes a more viable method for growing mycelium “leather mats.” Piñatex—initially mistaken for a cocktail—is a material made from pineapple leaf fibers. Eco-fashion advocate Livia Firth first introduced it to the world at the 2017 Met Gala.

Natural textile maker Ananas Anam now exclusively creates this material, which is used in making wallets, footwear, and furnishings. Luxury wallets are often seen as a starting point for entering the world of designer brands. When investing in a luxury women’s wallet, forget trends and what’s currently in vogue. Choose a piece that’s classic, sleek, and compact.

Versatility should also be important so you can mix and match your wallet with any outfit. A wallet isn’t just a necessity and an accessory—it’s a statement. Carry it with confidence.
