On October 11, 2024, rapper GloRilla released her studio album, Glorious, to rave reviews! The album is a solid piece of work from the rapper, and much like her counterparts, Glo has taken the approach of proving the naysayers wrong by simply getting in the booth. It’s no surprise that female Hip Hop is dominating the charts and apps like TikTok at the moment, with Latto extending her viral song, “Brokey,” with a music video and a cameo from the Brokey Challenge winner.

Viral music is one thing, but making a solid body of work that can transcend time and be listened to for generations to come, well, that’s seldom, and it’s safe to say that GloRilla just about nailed it. Each song is perfect—mastering, flow, and, most importantly, theme. The rapper has been dropping hit after hit, and in her music, she is uplifting women, encouraging them to take ownership of their bodies and to be responsible when it comes to dating and procreating. The artistic fashion in which Glo delivers this message is catchy and timeless.

During the earlier days of her career, Nicki Minaj would frequently mention to her fans that she wants them to stay in school and would recite lyrics like, “Ain’t pushing out his baby ‘til he buys the rock,” insinuating that she would not be having children prior to marriage. So not only is the message to young women encouraging, but it’s refreshing to see an artist practice what she preaches and do so unapologetically.

GloRilla is now infamous for making it known that marriage is a priority, or as she and Latto put it, “the procedure.” The third track on the 10/10 album showcases the artist's ability to switch flows back and forth with feature mate, Latto, as they discuss the importance of following tradition and, if it’s not possible, taking the necessary steps to ensure that as a woman, you’re not trapped in an inescapable situation. GloRilla says, “Only time a nigga got power over me, he payin’ the light bill.”

We can see that she’s blending the City Girls' subject matter of dating men with money to her own ideas and motif—that just because a man is providing does not mean he’s entitled to your body, let alone a legacy. GloRilla is young, and it’s refreshing to hear a new artist with such a large impact and influence over young women, guiding them in a direction that essentially garners them the best of both worlds—a partner who provides and protects. A person who will have to prove their worth if he plans or wants to be in a position where he can procreate with a woman of her stature or any woman, for that matter.

Throughout the album, there are many themes of self-improvement, empowerment, and nostalgia. Upon my first listen, I immediately chuckled to myself before heading over to Twitter and thanking Glo for making a song for us millennials; she didn’t leave us out in the cold. “I Luv Her” by GloRilla and T-Pain was the perfect song to bring me back to those college days when we would all be standing in a room shouting the lyrics to Plies and T-Pain’s song, “Shawty.” Again, Glo, thank you!

“Let Her Cook” was an amazing track as well, giving fans an inside look into GloRilla as an artist: her pen, her cadence, her message, and her ability to flow seamlessly on a track. This album will go down as one of her best, and we’re happy to see that quality music is making a return—no gimmicks, no bright lights, and embellished photoshoots with CGI and excess graphic design, just a girl on the cover and her art to back it up.

GloRilla is here to stay, and I cannot wait to show my support for her far and wide. Additionally, the synergy between Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla should most definitely be explored. Fans are asking for a mixtape from the artists, and I couldn’t agree more. Both women are talented in their own right.

Congratulations on your success, GloRilla, and for being named She’s SINGLE’s Woman of Influence 2024.
