7 Channels of Communication for Busy Professionals In Love

Are we ever too busy for the people we love? Whether it’s shooting them a text once a day or giving them a call on the weekends just to check in and say hello, why does it seem like, although we’re all connected, many of us are disconnected from the people closest to us? When it comes down to it, familiarity can be both a good and bad thing as it pertains to relationships. In another article, I mention that scarcity increases value, which means that the less we see or have of something, the more we crave it or want it once it becomes available.

If we’re all just sitting around waiting to be acknowledged, it’s safe to say that our presence will hold no value. When a relationship ends, we can sometimes get caught up in the question, “Why do guys act like they don’t care after a breakup?” But the truth is, they do care. However, in that initial moment, they feel relieved—and for good reason. They were tired of seeing and serving you.

If you’re someone who can’t seem to understand how your partner was able to move on so quickly, then you were probably the golden retriever in the relationship, and he, the black cat. Relationships like this are almost never bound to work—I mean, look at Hailey and Justin Bieber. He married his fan, and it’s only a matter of time before they part ways.

Loving someone does not mean being in their presence 24/7 or jumping at the opportunity to hang out the second you have a moment of free time. Busy professionals in love understand this concept, which is why in Hollywood, we almost never see a couple break up and start pining over one another.

One of them is usually quick to enter into a new relationship and begin working on their next marriage. Does this mean they never loved each other? No, it just means that for those of us who aren’t prioritizing love, we don’t need it to feel validated. In 2025, there are a number of things we could all be doing outside of chasing a partner or this so-called "American Dream."

We can be working towards our retirement, building a better future for ourselves and our families, spending time with our parents, and even, in some cases, solo traveling. Placing a man or woman at the center of your universe will almost never end well because when people feel tethered to another human being out of obligation, they will start to resent them.

It’s why, for so many men, leaving or cheating on their pregnant girlfriend comes so easily. It’s not the responsibility of being a parent they’re running from—it’s the obligations that come with it. In other words, they want to do what they want on their own time. While in many cases this is not feasible, even with the aforementioned example, it’s usually the root cause of single-parent households.

So now you may be wondering: how do you handle this? How do you become the black cat in a relationship? It’s easy—get busy! The only difference between you and that A-list celebrity who can go from one marriage to the next in less than a year is that they have a career they prioritize over the presence of another body in their bed. They don’t believe people are property, so no one is obligated to them: if you love me, stay and if you want to leave, leave.

HOW DOES A BUSY BLACK CAT COMMUNICATE?

Communicating with busy professionals can take on many forms, and below, I’m going to outline a few of them:

ASSISTANTS – Many business professionals will delegate communication through their assistants, nannies, or managers. While this is seldom the case, it does happen, often because they don’t want to own a cellular device, fearing that using one will inadvertently share their location and place them in immediate danger. But let’s say you’re not at Lady Gaga’s level of fame—again, this could simply be a common practice to keep your loved one updated as you run the office and manage day-to-day operations.
